PEEBLES grabbed all three points in Canonbie on Saturday thanks to a late Scott Inglis winner.

The visitors fell behind after just three minutes when a strike from outside the box deceived keeper Ryan Swan.

The Ams looked sluggish but had a good chance to level when Andy Borthwick went through on goal, only to fire over the bar.

At the interval Peebles changed from a 3-5-2 formation to a more traditional 4-4-2 and it appeared to help as the away side started to dominate.

Paddy Kelly lashed the ball into the net from outside the box to square the game up on 60 minutes.

Sub David Meldrum then put Peebles ahead, coolly slotting past the home keeper after picking up Jamie King’s cross.

CFC didn’t give up, though, and struck again with 12 minutes to play.

However this was to be Peebles’ victory. Kelly played the ball to Mark Wilson, who’s dummy on the edge of the box allowed Inglis to pick it up and curl into the goal. This wasn’t the prettiest Peebles performance but they should great character to fight back and claim the win.

Peebles: R. Swan, J. Dodds, B. Brown, R. Baillie, S. Taylor (J. King), C. Entwistle (D. Meldrum), S. Inglis, M. Graham (N. Dores), P. Kelly, A. Borthwick (M. Wilson), F. Muir.

VALE’S last chance of silverware was lost on Saturday in the dying minutes.

Despite a spirited performance by the Victoria Park side they crashed out of the Lowland League Cup after Danny Dunglison netted three minutes from time.

Jason Stevens had given the Vale a half time lead. But Saunderson’s sending off gave the home team the advantage. Craig Fergusson equalised with a header and with just a few minutes left Dunglinson fired in a winner.

Vale manager Mark Lamb said: “It was a disappointing way to go out as we showed in the first half we were the better team.” PEEBLES Amateurs are chasing Sanderson Cup final success tonight (Friday) as they take on Duns at Jedburgh’s Woodend Park.

A 3-2 victory against Hawick Legion Rovers in the semi-final last month secured their spot, as boss Barry Thomson eyes a repeat of the Ams’ win in the same competition in 2011.

Thomson said: “We’re really pleased to be in the final and the boys can’t wait to get out onto the pitch. This is our first year back in the Border Amateur league after a season out and to win a trophy would be a great achievement.

“Duns are a good side who like to play decent football but so do we, and we’re ready for them. I’ve got a bit of a selection headache as everyone’s been playing well but that’s a good thing.

“I’m sure the guys that are picked will do us proud. We’ve got a supporters’ coach heading down to the game as well so hopefully everyone can get behind us and we can win the cup for them.” That ‘coach leaves Peebles at 5.15pm (opposite the Post Office) with some spaces still available at a cost of 6. Anyone is welcome to come along.

STOW picked up their first trophy for seven years after a dramatic Waddell Cup win over Leithen Rovers.

The Villagers defeated Rovers 9-8 on penalties after a 2-2 draw after extra time, with Bruce Runciman scoring Stow’s equaliser in the 119th minute.

Alan McMath had put Leithen 1-0 up on ten minutes before Paul Young levelled in the 25th minute.

Extra time saw Stephen Swanson score what appeared to be the winner until Runciman forced penalties to be taken.

And it was goalkeeper Tom Kerr who was the hero as he saved Leithen’s 12th spot kick.

Stow manager Fraser Riddell was proud of his club’s first Waddell Cup triumph since 1999.

He said: “It has been a difficult season so I am delighted for the players.

“They showed tremendous spirit and character to keep pressing for an equaliser in extra time. I didn’t think it was going to go our way in the penalty shootout but credit to Tom who produced the vital saves to help us win the cup.” In Division A, relegation threatened Jed Legion lost 4-0 to West Barns Star at Dunbar.

Linton Hotspur have been relegated to Division C following a 4-1 loss to Langholm Legion. Scott Collins, Brian Mattinson, Martin Thomlinson and Craig Cuthbert all got on the scoresheet to send the West Linton club out of Division B, with Langholm requiring two wins from their final three games to get promoted.

Eyemouth Amateurs’ promotion hopes ended after a 4-2 loss at Tweeddale Rovers. The Fishermen were 2-1 up through two Andrew Sword goals but Rovers fought back to claim the points. A Grant Wilson double and goals from Ruaraidh McNaughton and David Lindsay saw Tweeddale move above their opponents into fifth place but they cannot be promoted.

Duns Amateurs are in pole position to go up from Division C after beating rivals Hawick Legion Rovers 3-0. They face Peebles Amateurs in Friday’s Sanderson Cup final, who also go into the game in good form having beaten CFC Bowholm 3-2. Paddy Kelly, David Meldrum and Scott Inglis gave Peebles victory and coach Mark Wilson said: “We started slowly against Bowholm but I was pleased with the effort of the team to turn the game around.

“We are buzzing for the cup final and can’t wait for it. Getting to a final is a great achievement in our first season back in the Border Amateur League and we are determined to finish the job against Duns.” Tweedmouth Amateurs completed their incredible Division C season with their 20th win from 20 games, after beating Biggar United 2-0.

Elsewhere, Kelso Thistle thrashed basement side Selkirk Victoria 7-0, while Lauder won 7-4 in a goalfest at St Boswells.
