FORMER Selkirk player Stephen Anderson has moved up the A72 to join Peebles Rovers.

And he could be joined by his former captain at Yarrow Park, Kenny Munro, over the next few days.

Midfielder Anderson, who also enjoyed a spell at Berwick Rangers, had been part of Selkirk’s plans for the forthcoming Lowland League season.

But following a sending off in a pre-season friendly a fortnight ago was released by the club.

And Rovers boss John O’Hara snapped him up.

O’Hara told us: “I was hoping to sign Stephen in the summer and thought I’d lost him when he agreed to stay at Selkirk.

“When I heard he had been released I offered him a contract and he agreed.

“Stephen is the kind of player we are looking for at Peebles.” Although 36-year-old defender Munro, who was also at St Johnstone, has yet to sign he has been training with the Whitestone Park club.

And it is expected he will put pen to paper before the season kicks off next Saturday.

Another trialist who has impressed in recent matches is 17-year-old David Lindsay.

The former Tweeddale Rovers player has been attracting attention from senior clubs.

O’Hara, who has 16 signed players already, is happy with the way his squad is progressing.

He added: “I am delighted that almost every player we had last season had re-signed despite the interests from a lot of other clubs.

“We have a few players still training with us and playing with us and we should be in a position by the end of the weekend to establish who will be with us for the season.” Peebles play their final pre-season match tomorrow (Saturday) at Lasswade against West Calder Juniors.
