PEEBLES crashed out of the League Cup on Saturday but they didn’t go without a fight.

Having lost their opener against Hawick and followed up with a 3-3 draw against Lothian Thistle, John O’Hara’s team had to win at St Mark’s Park on Saturday to reach the knock-out stages of the cup.

It was nervous opening first half which saw plenty of good passing from both sides without too many chances being created.

But after the break the game began to open up.

Darren Walker produced a great save to deny Stuart Donaldson on 50 minutes.

Chris Flockhart headed a deep cross inches wide as Peebles began to get on top.

But they found themselves a goal down on 78 minutes as Craig Dickson raced onto Gerry Burgess’ pass to slide the ball beneath Walker.

Flockhart almost equalised within a minute but his shot was blocked in front of goal.

Paul Murray did level on 86 minutes as he steered Jim Young’s ball beyond Shaun Smith.

Remarably both teams had goals chalked off in the dying minutes.

And in injury time Daniel McAleavy raced into the area to blast a shot inches wide of the far post.

And with the last move of the game keeper Walker raced into the Craigie box to head a corner just over.
