Penicuik 2 v 3 Bo'ness

East Premier League Champions, Boness, were the visitors to Penicuik Park for this final game of the season.

They set there stall out in the opening minute when Scott should have done better when he scooped a shot from close range, high over the bar. Minutes later, following a corner to Boness, Donnelly blasted a shot over the crossbar.

Immediately afterwards, a Montgomery free kick caused panic in the Boness defence, but the ball was eventually booted clear. At the other end, Morrison again missed the target when well set up by Mitchell.

Then Penicuik took the lead in the 8th minute, when a fine passing move was finished off by top scorer, CAMERON. However it only took Boness seven minutes to equalise when MORRISON"s strike from close range was almost saved by Bald, but the ball trundled over the line.

In the 18th minute, a Montgomery cross had keeper Kirkham holding his breath as the ball slid narrowly past the post. Then a long range shot was tipped on to the bar by Bald and the rebound fell to Brown, but he mishit his shot wide of the empty goal.

On the half hour, Brown saw his shot deflected inches past the post for a corner. Two minutes later, Milne dispossessed his marker, drove in on goal, but Kirkham came out to block his shot for a corner. From the corner, Milne"s header skimmed over the crossbar.

In the 41st minute, Boness broke through the midfield but Payne sliced his strike wide of the upright. One minute later, the same player had another chance, but once again failed to hit the target. Then a defence splitting pass picked out Scott, but his effort again went wide of goal.

One minute into injury time, Morrison waltzed through the Penicuik defence, but his strike went high, wide, and totally unhandsomely over the bar.

In the opening minute of the second half, Boness attacked down the left, but Scott"s strike curled narrowly past the post. Then keeper Kirkham was quick to come out and cut out a dangerous Montgomery cross.

In Boness"s next attack, Bald was well placed to save a strike by Brown. However, in the 54th minute, the inevitable happened when MORRISON slotted home to give Boness the lead. Two minutes later, Morrison was again a threat when his shot was well blocked by Bald and the rebound fell to Brown.

He headed the ball for goal, only to see it come off the post and cleared. In the 60th minute it Kirkham"s turn to be the hero when he saved a net bound shot by Barr. Five minutes later, Gay hit a powerful shot from 25 yards, only to see it deflected and then saved by Kirkham.

Then, Cole dispossessed Mortimer and sent over a pin point pass to Cameron in the six yard box, but he completely missed the ball when it seemed easier to score.

In the 67th minute, Boness were awarded a penalty when Milne fouled Brown and received a red card for his misdemeanour. However, the penalty effort hit the post and cleared.

In the 75th minute, Payne came close with a 20 yard volley that whistled past the post. Two minutes later, Lynch was clearly up ended in the Boness penalty box, but referee McGeachie disregarded the Penicuik claims and wrongly awarded a corner kick instead of a goal kick.

In the 86th minute, a Foster header from a corner kick went inches wide of the far post. With two minutes to go, Boness added to their tally when BROWN had an easy task to tap home from 10 yards.

From the restart, Gay fired a shot from the centre circle that had Kirkham back peddling to tip the ball onto the crossbar and away for a corner, but again referee McGeachie got it wrong and awarded a goal kick.

However Penicuik were not to be denied and Montgomery delivered a great cross to the front post where GAY got a touch to flick the ball over Kirkham into the net.
