Ormiston 2 v 4 Peebles

PEEBLES collected another three points with a well deserved win against Ormiston in this Central Taxis East of Scotland League First Division match at Recreation Park last Saturday.

In fact, Peebles had certainly been the better side over the piece as they had created the more numerous scoring chances, while they also played some excellent football.

With a strong wind blowing at their backs, Ormiston had the better of the opening exchanges without posing any real problems to the Peebles defence before Paul Cadger foiled Andrew Hamilton with a fine save at close range.

But it was Peebles who opened the scoring after 27 minutes when a Sam Hosker right-wing cross to the far post picked out David Knox, who gave Cadger no chance with a splendid angular header from six yards into the top near corner of the Ormiston net.

However, it was Ormiston who secured an equaliser just six minutes later when from an in-swinging Craig Smith corner-kick on the left to the near post, Peebles' Michael Meechan, in attempting a clearance, could only head the ball past his 'keeper David Simmons from close in for an unfortunate own goal.

But it was Peebles who put their noses in front once again with a second goal after 38 minutes when from a Hamilton left-wing cross, Fraser Henderson coolly drilled the ball past a helpless Cadger with a low well placed shot from 12 yards.

Peebles were the first to pose a threat after the break with Michael Mair coming close to increasing Peebles lead with a spectacular dipping shot from all of 30 yards which saw the ball just go over the Ormiston crossbar before Peebles notched a third goal after 64 minutes.

Nicky Cairns passed the ball to David Knox before he set off on an electrifying run down the left.

Then Knox neatly slipped the ball through to Hamilton before the diving Cadger could only parry his fierce angular shot from 14 yards into the path of Tommy Donnelly, who could only stab the ball past his 'keeper from close range for an unfortunate own goal.

Then at the other end, Ormiston substitute Graham Nisbet was narrowly off target with a good effort before Ormiston grabbed a second goal in the 70th minute.

After a comedy of errors in the Peebles defence, Nisbet collected the loose ball out on the left before he neatly slipped it across to the in-rushing Jason Young, who promptly lashed the ball home from 10 yards.

But Peebles secured their win with a fourth goal three minutes before full-time. From a Peebles free-kick out on the right, Andrew Hamilton played a neat one-two with substitute Mark Hanratty before he beat Cadger all ends up with a spectacular angular shot on the volley from 16 yards into the far top corner of the Ormiston net.

ORMISTON: P. Cadger, C. Clancy, S. Enwood, S. Fisher, T. Donnelly, S. Mayberry, C. Smith (B. Arthur 71 mins), C. Fisher, J. Young, J. McKenzie (G. Nisbet 67 mins), B. McEwan.

PEEBLES F.C: D. Simmons, D. Urey, M. Mair, J. McNamara, M. Meechan, D. Knox (S. Jordan 76 mins), F. Henderson, D. Jones, A. Hamilton, N. Cairns (C. Robertson 65 mins), S. Hosker (M. Hanratty 57 mins).
