Peebles Ams 3 v 3 Selkirk Victoria
PEEBLES were made to work hard and had to come from behind at a gusty Kerfield Park, with Jason Kane and Shearlaw playing a big part in earning the draw.
Selkirk started strongly and were far the more assured early doors. Peebles defence was under early pressure and Blaike playing at centre half in for the injured George Gray was having to work hard to keep the Vics strike force at bay.
On 18 mins Selkirk Vics took the lead as Peebles were unable to clear their lines and keeper Murphy had no chance from close range to give Selkirk the early lead.
This goal fuelled Peebles and they stepped up a gear. Sean Taylor out wide left was getting more involved with his direct running down the flanks.
Moments later Bebeto slipped a ball through to Shearlaw in the box only to see the keeper smother the ball well.
However on 25 mins Peebles got the deserved equaliser a ball down the left saw Taylor cross into the box, the Vics defender made a mess of the clearance and the ball broke to Bebeto, who saw his shot come off the right hand post only for the ball to come back across goal, again the defender blocked the shot for it to come of the other post and from the rebound Bebeto fired home.
Back came Selkirk though and on 33 mins Vics went back in front with a terrific shot out wide that gave murphy no chance from 20 yards. Bad defending by Peebles on 41 mins gave Vics their third goal after ball watching saw the Vic's striker stroke home with the Peebles back four in dissaray.
Just before half time on 44mins Peebles striker Smith, scored a great free kick from 20 yards out to pull it back to 3-2.
The second half saw Peebles start at a whirlwind speed and it was Bebeto who picked the ball up in his own half and sent a defence splitting pass through to Shearlaw who in turn curled a beauty past the keeper from 16 yards out into the bottom corner, on the 46min mark.
With the game level at 3-3 , Peebles now had the upper hand. Brands and Shearlaw had further chances to give Peebles the win, but tiredness setting in, and both saw a couple of good chances go a miss. The best of these shots going astray on 85 mins from Shearlaw.
Selkirk at times looked dangerous on the break as the Peebles rearguard of Robertson and Blaike struggled in the strong wind. But after 90 minutes the game ended level and four points from Peebles' first two games is a solid enough start.
Peebles: S Murphy, R Gray, M Blaike, C Robertson, C Brownstein, R Meikle, S Taylor, J Kane, P Shearlaw, R Brands, K Smith.
