Peebles 13 v 34 Biggar

A STIRRING second-half display from league-leaders Biggar saw them leave Peebles with full points.

The home side got off to a good start pushing into the Biggar half quickly, and winning a penalty on halfway - which was taken as a scrum.

But Biggar regained their composure and regrouped, and it was soon their turn to attack from which they picked up a three point penalty.

Peebles equalized soon after with their own penalty kicked by Donald Anderson from the 10-metre line.

Biggar kicked themselves into another three pont lead through Chris McKeand.

Donald Anderson levelled with the boot as neither team could carve out any openings in a hard-fought first half.

It was all to change after the interval, though.

The second half started spectacularly with a fast break by Biggar, and five minutes into the second half an explosive burst through the Peebles line by Simeon James led to the opening try of the game.

The conversion was missed, however a penalty kicked by Chris McKeand stretched the lead to 8 points.

Centre Douglas Notman sprinted into the corner for Biggar's second try shortly afterwards.

Peebles managed to regain some points when Donald Sangster drove over with the pack to score and Steve Gee booted the conversion through easily to claw back some of the margin.

But Biggar extended their lead again with yet another penalty kicked by their full back.

McKeand showed he had a multiple of talents as he caught the ball after a loose clearance kick that didn't quite make touch and made a break through the crumbling Peebles' defense to score and take them out of Peebles' reach.

The Gytes team made one last attack to regain some points, and possibly earn a losing bonus point.

After a strong attack, and repeated scrums on the Biggar line, exhaustion finally crept up on them, and in a moment of lax awareness, McKeand stole the ball and after a massive break from his own twenty-two scored to add insult to injury.

The game ended 13-34.
