Peebles 0 v 12 Leith Athletic
Peebles continued to leak goals as Leith Athletic ran out convincing winners in this Central Taxis East of Scotland League First Division match at Whitestone Park last Saturday.
And following the final whistle manager Ray McInness decided to step down as manager.
Despite what the final score-line might suggest, Peebles still played well in brief patches although Leith were certainly the far better side over the piece.
However, Peebles cause wasn't helped when their 'keeper David Simmons sustained an injury after 25 minutes with left-back Andy McGowan taking over in the Peebles goal.
After some competitive midfield exchanges, it was Leith who opened the scoring after four minutes from the penalty-spot after Michael McCormack had up-ended Greg Irvine just inside the Peebles box.
But after the diving Simmons had saved Euan Campbell's penalty-kick attempt, Chris Beaton came racing in before he slammed the loose ball home from the rebound.
Peebles replied with a neat build-up which involved Craig Morrison and Kevin Martin before Nicky Cairns sent in an angular shot from 18 yards which was comfortably saved by Iain Gordon.
In fact, Peebles were now enjoying their best spell of the game before the Athletic added a second goal after 20 minutes against the run of play.
Campbell made a menacing run into the Peebles box on the right before he crossed the ball to the in-rushing Chris Beaton, who bundled it over the Peebles goal-line from close range.
Then the Athletic notched a third goal three minutes later when after a neat Leith build-up down the right, Euan Campbell beat Simmons all ends up with a terrific angular shot from 20 yards into the far top corner of the Peebles net.
Leith scored a fourth goal after 27 minutes when from a Mark Duthie right-wing cross to the near post, Chris Beaton notched up his hat-trick with a header from close in.
McGowan hit the fifth before Jamie Lauder netted the sixth one minute into injury-time.
Leith were in seventh heaven eight minutes after half-time when from a Dougie Thom left-wing cross, Greg Irvine had the simple task of slotting the ball into the Peebles net from close in.
Milligan struck the eighth before Neil Ewart defence-splitting pass sent Greg Irvine racing into the Peebles box before he coolly drilled the ball past an exposed McGowan from 12 yards.
The Athletic made it 10 after 74 minutes when following a Milligan corner-kick from the left, Martyn Wallace slotted the ball home from close in at the far post. Campbell hit number 11 before substitute Rory Stewart lashed in number 12 from six yards.
