Peebles 0 v 7 Craigroyston
Craigroyston ran out convincing winners against Peebles in this Central Taxis East of Scotland League First Division match at St. Mark's Park last Saturday.
It wasn't the start Rab Linton wanted for his second spell as manager of the club.
In fact, Craigroyston had dominated this game from start to finish with home 'keeper Craig Weir only having to make just one save of any note during the entire 90 minutes.
After some early pressure, Craigroyston opened the scoring after eight minutes when a Stuart Martin left-wing cross to the near post picked out James Binnie before he calmly stroked the ball home from six yards.
Craigroyston continued to press as Binnie, Gary Georgeson and David Jeffrey all came close to increasing the lead with good efforts before Peebles finally posed a threat nearing half-time.
After a neat build-up down the right, Darren Crosbie sent in a crisp angular shot from 18 yards which brought out a splendid two-handed diving save from Weir.
Craigroyston replied with a Kyle Hay corner-kick from the right finding Jeffrey before he sent the ball narrowly past the far Peebles post with a flashing angular header from 8 yards.
But Craigroyston deservedly added a second goal four minutes before the interval when Binnie neatly threaded the ball through to David Anderson before he was foiled by a good save from David Simmons.
However, the loose ball then broke kindly to the in-rushing Gary Georgeson before he promptly lashed it home from ten yards.
Craigroyston caught the Peebles defence napping after the break as they notched a third goal after just 37 seconds.
From a Martin right-wing cross, Binnie saw his attempted shot being blocked before David Anderson fired the loose ball past a helpless Simmons with a low angular shot from 12 yards.
Craigroyston grabbed a fourth goal in the 57th minute after the Peebles defence had failed to clear a Martin corner-kick, Georgeson sent over a left-wing cross which found David Anderson before he bundled the ball over the Peebles goal-line from close range.
Then Craigroyston went nap just seven minutes later when from a Martin right-wing cross, Steven Manson gave Simmons no chance with an angular header at the near post.
Moments later, after making an excellent run down the left, Anderson struck the Peebles crossbar with a cross-cum-shot from 20 yards before the ball rebounded away to safety.
But Craigroyston did make it six after 71 minutes from the penalty-spot with Anderson notching up his hat-trick.
After Peebles substitute Craig Dilworth had up-ended Stephen Sproule inside the Peebles box, David Anderson gave the diving Simmons no chance with a perfectly placed penalty-kick attempt with the ball finding the bottom left-hand corner of the Peebles net.
Shortly afterwards, after a neat Craigroyston build-up down the right, Anderson sent the ball just inches over the Peebles crossbar with a cracking shot on the volley from 16 yards.
But Craigroyston were in seventh heaven 30 seconds into injury-time with two of the Craigroyston substitutes combining for the goal.
Kris O'Neil sent over a right-wing cross which picked out Lloyd Dignan at the far post before he headed the ball home from close range.
