Peebles 38 V 11 Kirkcaldy

Dale Clancy tries to work his way through the Kirkcaldy line.

KIRKCALDY kicked off this Scottish Hydro Premier 2 match at the Gytes, and got an early penalty on the Peebles 22, which captain and number 10 Quintan Sanft kicked over to get the first points of the game on the board.

Peebles responded with a strong attack and soon after they levelled the score with a penalty for obstruction; which was booted through the posts with ease by Neil Warnock.

Peebles kept attacking, and this paid off as they got their first chance to lead in the game when Neil Warnock kicked over his second penalty to make the score 6-3.

Kirkcaldy drew the scores again soon after with another penalty, kicked by captain Quintan Sanft who seemed to have recovered.

On the 40th minute, the first try was scored when Donald Sangster broke through the Kirkcaldy defence and ran in to score, and the Peebles fly half converted this.

Five minutes later, in a long stoppage time, Peebles scored another try after a huge Peebles overlap in their own half was used, and David Anderson sprinted down the wing to score.

The long conversion from touch was missed however, to end the first half Peebles 18, Kirkcaldy 6.

Kirkcaldy had a chance to get their first try almost twenty minutes into the second half, when they pushed forward into the Peebles 22.

They had multiple rucks and scrums as they went through the phases on the Peebles five metre line; once being held up over the try line and were called back for a five metre scrum.

For five minutes the Peebles pack held off the Kirkcaldy attack, but in the end they cracked, and Kirkcaldy got their first try. The conversion however bounced off the posts, and they were left with five points and a dent in the posts as a testament to their attack.

Kirkcaldy pushed forward again, but this time didn't even get started as a penalty was given to Peebles for holding on, on the visitor's ten metre line, which was kicked at goal and just went over the posts for three points by Neil Warnock.

Neither team made any progress on the score board for the next ten minutes, until with five minutes left, Peebles passed the ball wide to Darren Kerr who outpaced the defence from the halfway line, to score near the posts.

An easy conversion for Neil Warnock followed to give Peebles another seven points. Kirkcaldy kicked off, and as Peebles tried to clear, the kick was sliced across the pitch.

Darren Kerr however managed to pick it up before it went into touch, and he ran down the touch line, only to be tackled five metres from the Kirkcaldy try line.

Kirkcaldy picked up the ball, and dove over their own line to give them time to reset their defence, giving Peebles a five metre scrum.

However this didn't help them as the Peebles pack drove over the Kirkcaldy try line, and James Oakes scored the bonus point try.

The conversion from the touch line was very difficult, and unsurprisingly missed. Kirkcaldy launched one last attack to get a consolation try, but it back fired, as a quickly taken penalty by Peebles was ran up field for a fifth try, scored by Donald Anderson.
