Ormiston 2 v 1 Peebles Rovers
A last-minute goal broke the hearts of brave Peebles in Saturday’s Image Printers Cup tie.
The improving Borders side looked like they were heading towards extra-time against Ormiston when former Gala Fairydean striker Mark Pagliarulo beat keeper Bruce Callan with a close-range shot.
Rovers manager Stuart Robertson said: “We had the better chances as the second-half went on and I thought we could win. We were getting ready for extra-time when, bang, we lost a goal and we were out.”
It all started well enough for Rovers with Kevin Harper and Lewis Montgomery stretching the home defence.
And midway through the first-half towering defender Crawford Leslie headed the visitors in front.
Ormiston forced Callan into a couple of decent saves before the break but Peebles were good for their lead.
A short spell of sustained pressure after the break led to Brian McEwan equalising for the home side.
Montgomery was unfortunate not to edge the visitors back in front as his shot struck the outside of the post.
But with only second remaining on the clock Pagliarulo blasted Ormiston into the second round.
Peebles Rovers. B Callan, J Girwood, I Anderson, G Stenhouse, C Leslie, A Chalmers, K Martin, C Morrison, K Harper, L Montgomery & E Black.
