Kelso 5 v 11 Biggar

Kelso requested that this game should be played on Friday evening rather than Saturday and given that this freed up the following day for those travelling to Murrayfield, Biggar readily agreed.

Biggar made a couple of personnel changes for this game - Colin Arthur started at prop following his good showing against Haddington last week, Josh Harvey made the trip from Dundee to play at lock forward while Chris McKeand returned at fullback.

This was a game largely dominated by the conditions with the gale force wind making things difficult for both sides.

Playing against the elements in the first half Biggar played well, counter attacking with ball in hand as kicking into the wind was never a realistic option.

The pack and backs linked well on several occasions with Jason Kelly - who again had another good game - notching the side's only try.

Craig Parker managed a penalty and with the Biggar defence holding firm and restricting Kelso to just two penalties, the score at the break was 8-6 to Biggar.

Turning around with the elements in their favour Biggar might have expected to add to their tally and while they did add a penalty this was not the winning margin for which they had hoped.

Rarely ever under pressure and rarely ever out of their opponents half, Biggar had 90 per cent of possession and territory but could not break the Kelso defence - although on a number of occasions this was down more to Biggar errors rather than resolute Kelso tackling.

To get the win was the aim however, and Biggar took the four points, although Kelso's losing bonus was a disappointment.

There are six league games remaining – their scheduling is causing some concern within the Hartreemill committee especially as there are some very notable lengthy breaks in the dates – and Biggar are still a little too close to the bottom two places than they would prefer.

Kirkcaldy visit once again on Saturday and it is crucial that Biggar record another victory to give themselves a little bit more breathing space.
