AFTER last week's huge disappointment in Aberdeen it was going to be interesting to see how Peebles would react to the heavy defeat.
As it turned out, brave Dalziel were not to be the whipping boys in the cup that everyone expected.
Within minutes of the kick off it was plain to see that Dalziel were here to battle and scrap for everything. Early on Davey Paton secured a number of lineout balls only for Peebles to squander their possession.
On fifteen minutes Dalziel exerted some pressure and were almost in after a sweet passing move resulted in good Pees tackling which put the ball carrier into touch.
Paton again secured fine ball from a lineout and took the ball to a ruck as the Pees made ground. This was their first serious attack of the game and with a metre to go Ryan McConnell ploughed over the line and flopped to the ground like a four by four trying to cross the Cuddy. Unfortunately Warnock missed the conversion.
As Dalziel went on the attack they got a penalty for Peebles holding onto the ball on the ground. Up stepped Simpson to cut Peebles lead to 5-3.
This was immediately repeated and Peebles were again penalised for holding on in front of the posts. Simpson converted the penalty for Dalziel to take the lead 5-6.
Peebles rampaged forward with a great break by the flying Dave Maclean, who found Donald Anderson, but Dalziel were penalised for being offside. Warnock converted the penalty to make it 8-6 at the break.
Peebles began to exert some real pressure following half time, and for a good 20 minutes Dalziel never made it into the host's territory.
Towards the end of the game Davey Paton went on a rampaging run and took the ball to ground. Dalziel though came in and infringed for Peebles to be awarded a scrum.
As play continued Peebles put together a fantastic passage of play ending with Martin Cruickshank crossing the line for a great try which was instigated by Davey P.
