TWEEDDALE scored four goals for the second time in four days as they made it two wins from two in the Border Amateur 'B’ Division.

This Peeblesshire derby was Linton Hotspur’s first match and they gave a decent account of themselves in a difficult encounter.

Dale raced into a three goal lead during a ten minute spell in the first half, but it had been fairly even until that point. Speedy forward play from David Lindsay and Jamie Mackay led to two goals for the former and one for the latter.

Blair Meikle added a fourth from close range early in the second half, before a late rally from Hotspur pulled it back to 4-2 courtesy of goals from Michael Mcewan and a Ross Mcleod penalty.

A scrappy opening saw Linton slightly on top, as they edged the physical battle. Jacob Swan had an opportunity coming in off the right wing but Hall saved comfortably.

But three moments of quality flipped the game on its head and well and truly in Tweeddale’s favour. Meikle got away from Macfarlane on the left wing and crossed for Mackay to produce a deft header.

Meikle then fed Lindsay down the left and the striker used his pace to open up space for himself and side footed across the keeper.

Lindsay got his second brace in as many games after being cleverly set up by strike partner Mackay. A reverse pass released him in the box again, and he cut inside and finished in a similar vein to before.

Mackay went clean through with a chance to make it four before half time but Scott Cursiter produced a good save.

But the fourth goal did come shortly after the break. Mackay released Ruaraidh McNaughton down the right and he pulled back for fellow winger Meikle, who picked his spot.

The game seemed as good as over and fell in to a slight lull. Although Lindsay should have killed it off with his hat-trick, but his chip went straight into the arms of Cursiter.

Mcewan pulled one back when he just managed to escape the attentions of Finlay Moffat and slide beyond Hall.

That seemed to be just a consolation, but the game threatened to take on a whole new dimension when the deficit was reduced to two. When the ball bounced up and hit Moffat on the hand, the ref harshly ruled that it was worthy of a hand ball and a penalty. Mcleod done the business from the spot to make things slightly nervy for Tweeddale.

But they managed to hold on without any major scares. Campbell Forsyth had a powerful free kick punched away by Hall but otherwise the Dale defence held firm.

In fact there could have been goals at the other end. A Craig Collin lob hit the bar, and a Nick Rogers free kick suffered the same fate.

Tweeddale travel to Ancrum tomorrow (Saturday) for their third league game, hoping to continue the perfect start.
