KELSO’S 4th Annual Gala was the first meet of the new season for 10 young Peebles swimmers and they performed with credit, securing three golds in a tidy medals haul.

The youngsters also notched 21 personal bests in their 34 swims.

The Peebles competitors in the 10-year age group were Ellie Farndon, Kate Banner, Freddie Mudge, Erin Ackerman, Arran Cameron, Della Caulfield-Smith, Olivia Easton and Rachel Lothian.

Kate secured gold in the butterfly with a new personal best and recorded an 11-second personal best in the breaststroke.

Freddie also had a great day, winning gold in the freestyle (by 1/100 of a second) and silver in the backstroke. He recorded best times in those events as well as in breaststroke and butterfly.

Ellie took silver in the backstroke and breaststroke and bronze in the freestyle and reduced her time in the backstroke.

Erin also reduced her time in all four strokes - the butterfly by 13 seconds and the backstroke by 12! The The other four youngsters also came away with new best times in at least one of the disciplines.

In the 11-year-old category William Rees took gold in the freestyle (by 1/100 of a second) and achieved a new best in breaststroke, Isla Cross landed the bronze in butterfly and reduced her time in all four swims, including knocking over 11 seconds off her backstroke time.

The Peebles youngsters also took part in the 10-11 years mixed relays.
