THE second Border Adult Netball League Day took place at Peebles High School.

Once again the event attracted a wide range of spectators from children in buggies, husband and partners to aged grandparents, demonstrating the age range of the 80 or so women taking part.

First up were two of the new adult teams, with the Jets producing a more skilled performance than last week, narrowing the gap on the other teams, but still not strong enough to hold off the altogether speedier Hotshots. The second match pitted Peebles Netball Senior team against the youngest outfit in the league, the U15 District squad. Despite some outstanding shooting from U15 player Kirsten Rodwell, who secured 90 per cent success on goal to win the topshot of the night, and relentless effort by the youngsters from start to finish, they could not close the gap on their older clubmates, including Neve Mclean, Scotland U23 long squad player.

The closest match of the day ensued between Peebles U17 and the newly formed Dragons. Having recently signed up both the Nicholson sisters, international long jumper Faye and ex Edinburgh University netball shooter Rachel (not available on this play day) in addition to ex Peebles Netball senior player Flora Gillies, and led by experienced police netball player Caroline Connagan, the Dragons look set to live up to their name in future. On this occasion, despite missing some key players and clearly still inexperienced as a team, the Dragons kept the scoreline close throughout against Peebles Netball U17s, securing a valuable point for achieving over half of the opposition’s scoreline. The results were as follows: Hotshots 35, Jets 12; Peebles Seniors 48, U15 District 22; Peebles U17 31, Dragons 23; and Lauderdale Ladies 16, Team Tank 44.
