AT the Netball Scotland Annual Awards night in Glasgow, hosted by Carol Smillie, Peebles Netball received two national awards. The club was awarded the title of Junior Club of the Year for the second year in succession.

And Peebles High’s seniors won the school team of the year. Freda Hutchison, Chair of Netball Scotland, said: “This secondary school are the current holders of the Scottish Schools Open title having won this competition two years in a row.

“The team had players in the Under 19 squad who represented their country at Netball Europe and one player who went all the way with the Scottish Thistles playing in the Commonwealth Games. “Currently four of the team feature in national squads. Ambassadors of netball they excel in their sport. “Coaching and umpiring also feature on their radar meaning overall a rich source of talent for Netball Scotland.” The award of junior club of the year was in recognition of Peebles reaching an unprecedented five national finals, winning three, and the success locally, having won the Border league at two age groups for four years in succession.
