Peebles Judo Club are embarking on a round of fundraising activities to replace the Judo floor mats in use at Peebles Judo Club which meets weekly at the Gytes Leisure Centre, the cost for this being approximately £7000.
The mats needing replaced are now in disrepair due to general use over many years, and are becoming a safety issue.
The fundraising activities start in earnest next Wednesday the 4th June with an Urban Self Defence Class which is open to the public being held at the Gytes from 8-9pm for teenagers and adults costing £5.00.
Later in the year we have planned: a cycling event, a family Ceilidh, a judo camp and several other sponsored events and fundraisers.
Peebles Judo Club has been in existence since 1999, benefiting the youth of the area. The club is run as a non-profit organization by volunteers, for the benefits of all its members.
We cater for around 50 local players at present ranging in ages from 8 years to 64 years old. Judo has been an Olympic sport since 1964 and with the London Olympics in 2012 and the Glasgow Commonwealth games in 2014, Scotland is in a strong position to develop in this sport.
Further we believe that the sport builds confidence, respect for others, sportsmanship, balance, coordination and courage. This benefits members both within our club and in their outside lives.
Any local business or individual who would like to sponsor a mat or find out more information about Judo or our club should contact peeblesjudoclub@tiscali.co.uk
