West Barns Star 0 v 4 Leithen Rovers
AFTER an even start, it was West Barns who showed the early promise and could have been 2 up inside the first 20 minutes but for some desperate defending and poor finishing.
Rovers somehow kept the score level until Alan McMath broke the deadlock midway through the half.
The Innerleithen side then became more dominate with the wind behind them but frustration in front of goal, had them going in at the half-time interval disappointed at only being 1 goal to the good.
The home side had their best chance inside the first minute of the restart when the winger flashed a shot across goal but it was the Innerleithen side who were soon to double their lead when Tosh Fleming slipped an inch perfect pass on to McMath, who took a great first touch and steered his shot passed the out-rushing goalkeeper.
There was now only going to be one winner in this game, and the points were secured when Aaran Brunton picked the ball up just outside the box and with the keeper expecting a shot, he calmly lobbed his effort just under the bar and into the net.
This gave the big striker great confidence and minutes later he forced his way into the penalty box and lashed an unstoppable shot passed the keeper and into the far corner of the net for Rovers' 4th goal.
The only marr on, what was in the end, a comfortable victory was the foolish sending off of young Steven Fleming for dissent after only just coming on as a late substitute.
This lack of discipline will only hamper Leithen Rovers ambitions to win silverware this season, and must be quashed. On a lighter note - at least his strip didn't need washed!!
Leithen Rovers: Crawford, Scott, Lawrie, Gibb & Wilson; Fleming (T), Clarke, Lowrie & Shek; McMath & Brunton. Subs: Hastie, Fleming (S), Johnstone, Blaikie & Singh.
