THE TWEED Valley produced two new Scottish Champions last weekend.
Lewis Buchanan and Emma Guy, both of Innerleithen, were crowned Junior and Women's champions last Sunday at the Scottish Downhill Mountain Biking Championships at Dunkeld in Perthshire.
Conditions were tough, with rain making the infamously difficult track slippy, with several riders falling foul of the weather before the weekend was over.
After torrential rain during Saturday practice, things cleared up a bit over night and it looked like the track had dried out a bit on Sunday.
Fresh from World cup races abroad, Lewis had a near-perfect first run and crossed the line with a hugely impressive time of 2.15.
Still just 16, Lewis not only blew away nearest junior rival Allan Finlay, but took an unprecedented 19 seconds out of his time as well.
A bad second run was no skin off the Border College student's nose, as it quickly became apparent that not even the elite riders would pose a challenge to his time.
The MS Evil Racer's time went on to be fastest of the day, even beating Elite winner Fergus Lamb by a full three seconds.
In the women's category, Innerleithen racer Jaymie Mart ended her seven year reign at the top as she was beaten by fellow townswoman Emma Guy.
The Hub Cafe owner posted an impressive 3.25, with Jaymie having to settle for a 3.45 and second place, with Bex Reilly taking third place.
