SELKIRK scored a half century on their travels to Peebles last Friday night with both their place in Premier 2 already confirmed for next season.
The game had been pencilled in for the beginning of April but both teams elected to bring the fixture forward so as to avoid a prolonged delay between games.
A decision Peebles must now be ruing greatly.
It was however the home side who struck first in the opening minutes with fly-half Neil Warnock easily dispatching a penalty from 20 yards.
This only served to rouse Selkirk though who began a succession of phases, with ball carriers repeatedly breaking the game line. Eventualy Darren Clapperton went over in the left corner and David Cassidy duly kicked his first points of the night.
Minutes later and Selkirk were in again, quick hands resulting in Ryan Godsmark slipping in for the try. Cassidy however missed the conversion.
The game then descended into a scrappy affair tooing and froing in the middle with the stalemate only being broken on 34 minutes, following Peebles fullback, Donald Anderson's, yellow card for putting his hand in the ruck.
Selkirk poured forward and Clapperton bagged his second try in some style on 37 minutes, cutting inside and evading three tackles.
The lead was further extended just before half-time when Selkirk hooker, Stuart Forrest, elected to pick up a loose ball none of the Peebles players seemed to want anything to do with.
Peebles came out with newly restored vigour in the second half which eventually resulted in number eight, David Paton, holding off two tackles to go in under the posts.
However the fightback was quelled somewhat when Selkirk fullback Cassidy added a further three points to his night's tally with a booming 40 yard penalty on 55 minutes.
Five minutes later and Peebles learned one of rugby's vital lessons, 'Don't let it bounce', which they did, leaving Selkirk lock, Rory Aglen, to steal in for a try.
However the fight hadn't completely gone out of the home side yet with Donald Anderson driving over for a try in the right corner following a rolling maul. Warnock also duly dispatched the conversion.
This prompted Selkirk to once again turn the screw and Nyal Godsmark stole in for a try following some concerted pressure.
With five minutes to go Peebles were offered an opportunity to reduce the deficit somewhat after Selkirk's Kenny Clyde was given a yellow.
However Peebles couldn't make the extra man pay as tired legs refused to co-operate and Godsmark went over for his second, beating three men in the process.
Peebles' hapless night was rounded off as Clapperton's conversion bounced off the post and over.
