The former Peebles High player is one of 12 ladies who will take to the courts for the home nation in Glasgow.

Currently ranked 12th in the World, Scottish Netball has seen a huge rise in its success and popularity in recent years improving from 16th back in 2011.

And the 18-year-old, who is now studying biomedical sciences at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, is amongst a handful of youngsters in the squad.

National Coach Gail Parata made the announcement today. She said: “From my perspective as the national coach it was very hard to choose the final 12 based on the improvement I have seen over the last year in the athletes that trialed for a place on the team.

“However I believe this is a strong squad that provides us with many options all over the court and also solid back up in each position.

“Team confidence is high with recent wins over teams ranked in the top 10 in the world and we hope to compete with distinction and aim for a top eight finish at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.” This will be Scotland’s first ever netball entry in the Commonwealth Games.

And the Commonwealth countries are renowned for being the strongest netballing nations in the world with powerhouses Australia and New Zealand battling for Gold in each of the past four competitions. Other top contenders for medals this year are expected to be England, Jamaica, Malawi and South Africa who are all ranked in the World’s top six.

But hopes are high of progressing with pride from a tough pool.

They will be looking to start with a victory on July 25 against St Lucia before taking on the world’s best and reigning Commonwealth Gold medalists, New Zealand, the following day.

Next up is the Caribbean challenge of Jamaica on July 27, the top African nations of Malawi two days later and they wrap up the pool stages with a local battle against the much-improved Northern Ireland, which is set to have a huge influence on the classification matches.

The full Scotland Thistles squad is Clair Brownie, Karin Connell, Rachel Forbes, Lynsey Gallagher, Lesley MacDonald, June McNeill, Fiona Moore-McGrath, Hayley Mulheron, Samantha Murphy, Jo Pettitt, Gemma Sole and Fiona Themann.

The final selections for Glasgow 2014 were announced yesterday in several other disciplines.

There was no relay place for former Scottish sprint champion Stacey Downie.

But there was an inclusion in the Scotland hockey team for Selkirk player Sarah Robertson.
