RECORD-BREAKING swimmers from across Peeblesshire saw their efforts recognised at an awards night in the town.

Peebles Amateur Swimming Club’s annual presentation night, held at the Hydro last Friday, celebrated the achievements of the club swimmers.

Jodie Pyman, 12, was awarded swimmer of the year for being selected for the Scottish Bronze squad.

This year at the club championships 18 records were broken, some of which have been held for over 10 years.

Kathryn Swinney broke the record in the junior girls 100m backstroke while Elouise Farndon achived new bests in the girls 10 and under section for 50m freestyle and backstroke.

Kate Banner took the girls 10 and under 50m butterfly and 100m individual medley records while Thomas Nicoll broke four records for boys under 12 - 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley.

Finlay Dewar achieved new bests in the junior boys section at 100m backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley. In the senior section Gregor Swinney achieved five records - in 100m fly, backstroke, breaststroke, individual medley and the open 400m freestyle.

The award winners were as follows - 8 years and under category: Hannah Sorrell and Shaun Pyman; 10 and under: Elouise Farndon and Angus Russel; 12 years and under: Jodie Pyman and Thomas Nicoll.

The overall junior girl award went to Kathryn Swinney while Finlay Dewar took the boys’ equivalent. The senior girl award went to Sophie Newbold and senior boy to Gregor Swinney.

The most improved swimmer award went to Freddie Mudge and most promising swimmer went to Elouise Farndon.
