Although the blokes were defeated by 14 points to 7, they have already demanded a re-match. Interest in a mixed league will be gauged over the coming weeks before plans are finalised.

With the Scottish Schools Cup now into the knock-out stages, every match must be won to ensure progress through the later stages. Peebles Netball’s youngest teams had to travel, both drawing mid-week away matches in the second round. Up against the winners of other regional pools, the youngsters were prepared for tough contests. However, both Peebles teams made short shrift of their opposition, with no real challenge from the Fife and East Kilbride schools, securing them a smooth ride into the quarter finals.

Meanwhile, around 100 women and girls took part in the Border Adult Netball League matches last weekend, now into its divisional stage. In Division 1, a much anticipated Peebles U17 vs Dragons contest was too close to call until the final minutes, with a slightly under strength Dragon squad allowing the U17s to steal the victory on the day. Borders U15 put up a magnificent fight against their older opposition, Peebles Seniors, and were rewarded with an additional point for achieving over half the winner’s goal tally.

In Division 2, newcomers Gala found the going tough once more, playing two matches and losing both to more established teams; the Hotshots were pleased with their victory over the Jets who, despite some accurate shooting from Peebles High School teacher Rhona Adams, found it difficult to break through the solid Hotshots defence for her to take more chances on goal.

Current leaders of Division 1 are Peebles Seniors (on goal difference) with Division 2 currently headed by the Hotshots. The league is sponsored by the National Lottery and organised by Peebles Netball.
