FOUR girls from Innerleithen have completed their first ever triathlons.

And they can’t wait to do it all again.

School mates Emma Currie, Ellie Gordon, Lauren Nightingale and Anna Tweedy ran four miles, swam 40 lengths and then biked a further four miles during an exhausting Sunday.

The 11-year-olds took up their sporty challenge a few months ago to raise money for care charity Cornerstone.

And their training was benefitial as each of them still wore a smile as they approached the finishing line.

Emma’s mum Angela told us: “The girls did fantastically well.

“It is the first time they have tried anything like this but they all seemed to really enjoy it.” The quartet left the Innerleithen starting line on Sunday morning.

On reaching the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel they made a swift change before diving into the pool for a marathon 40-lengths swim.

And after a quick blow-dry they climbed onto their bikes for a cycle back to Innerleithen.

The girls have so far raised £400 with their Justgiving page - www.just-giving.com/EELCharityTriathlon/ - still open.

The money the girls raise will go towards funding materials for activities at the Cornerstone Connects centre in Galashiels, which supports adults with disabilities and additional needs.
