THE last four weeks have been a busy time for Walkerburn Bowling Club and organisers would like to say a big thank you to all who turned up to support the Fun Day and Try Bowls afternoon. During the afternoon one new adult and one junior joined the club. The club also raised over £400 which will go towards the share of grant commitments.

A spokesman for Walkurn Bowling Club said: “We also say a thank you to all who helped in the background to make the day a success.” On Friday afternoons during June the club held bowling sessions for Walkerburn Primary School children as part of the Active Schools programme.

The spokesman added: “We say a thank you to Paul and Sophie for organising the sessions and to our members for their assistance, we hope to repeat this in the near future.” A Junior Triple from the Walkerburn Club will represent the area in the SYBA Scottish Championships at Ayr on Monday, July 27.

On June 20 the club held the Mackay Open Pairs Tournament and after a minute’s silence in memory of Angus Mackay play started with 16 pairs taking part from Innerleithen, Galashiels, Pathhead, Broughton Eddleston and Walkerburn.

At the start of the day there was a shower of rain which cleared away to a beautiful day.

After a good day’s bowling the final was contested by Tom Anderson and Grace Hogg against Jordan Anderson and Josh Meldrum, with Jordan and Josh running out the winners in the last end.

The prizes were presented by Emily McMurray, daughter of the late Angus Mackay.

Everybody was thanked for making this day a success and Rathburn Chemicals were congratulated for their continued support.

The club took part in the Walkerburn Festival Sports Day by having a stall at the rugby club.

Free Target Bowling, Play Your Cards Right and the two sheets of Spot the Jack were a hit with the juniors.

The next open Tournament is the Marjory Johnstone Open Triples on July 26, entries to John Smith Match Secretary on 01896870585.
