CHILDREN will have an opportunity to pick up tips on how Andy Murray climbed to to the top of the tennis tree when his mother Judy brings her roadshow to the Borders this week.

The Tennis on the Road programme is visiting the Borders Tennis Centre in Galashiels on Friday, July 24 and the Peebles Tennis Club the following day.

In a series of individual sessions across the two days, local children will experience some of the games that Judy played with Andy and brother Jamie when they were younger.

Tennis on the Road is touring Scotland to bring tennis to a whole new generation of children and inspire a workforce to nurture the game. Supported by Royal Bank of Scotland, the roadshow aims to give parents, coaches, teachers and volunteers the tools needed to get children active and ready to play tennis.

The sessions cost little to set up and will showcase simple fun activities using every day low-cost household objects, helping to develop the vital ABCs of sport – agility, balance and coordination.

Royal Bank of Scotland has been a proud supporter of the Murray family since Andy’s early days on the junior tennis circuit. That long-standing commitment made RBS the perfect partner to help Judy bring her vision of Tennis on the Road to life. Over the coming months and years, RBS will help take Tennis on the Road to communities across Scotland, while also developing additional ways to grow the programme and share it with as many children and families as possible.

Tennis Scotland is the governing body for tennis in Scotland. The organisation work closely with the LTA and sportscotland to develop the sport across the country - from grassroots in clubs, schools and parks through to providing the best coaching and facilities for the next generation of Scottish tennis stars.
