AFTER a heavy defeat at the hands of Edinburgh Accies, County took on mid table Preston Village with a full complement of players.

Captain Slater lost the toss and Peebles were invited to bat following the heavy overnight rain.

Waddell (30) and Maxwell made a steady start with a slow outfield and then Caddick (S) joined Waddell as the run-rate increased.

After drinks the Caddicks increased the scoring rate with a 50 run partnership until the second run out saw Scott out for a good 40.

Darren Gray then joined in with a brisk twenty and Peebles reached 179-4 setting a decent total as the sun came out after tea.

Slater and Maxwell kept it tight followed by old timer Burns whose “dibbly dobblies” gave him three wickets.

Gray kept it fairly straight and restricted “village” to 136 and a victory that means County have to defeat Drummond Trinity in Edinburgh next Saturday to stay up.

Some good fielding and catching from Peebles and a credit to both teams playing the game in an enjoyable and sporting style.
