AT Hartree Mill over the weekend there were two excellent victories in what was a truly international afternoon of rugby.

First up were the girls from Mississagua RFC of Toronto, Canada.

Their almost 40-strong party arrived in Scotland on Friday and during an action-packed 10 days trained at Stirling County, toured the castle and then watched the Scotland/France Ladies match at Cumbernauld on Friday before travelling to Biggar on Saturday.

They were billeted at the homes of many club members and a big thank you to all who supported the tourists in any way.

A whistle stop tour of Edinburgh on Sunday preceded the Scotland/France 6 Nations match with games still to come against Hillhead Jordanhill and Murrayfield Wanderers!

The match itself saw the Canadians field two XVs, one for each half of the match and with Biggar able to muster just 14 players it looked as though it would be a challenging match for the locals.

Undeterred the Biggar girls matched the tourists in most departments and managed an encouraging win.

After that, and with a packed clubhouse thanks to the sponsorship of the Medwyn Valley Farmers, the elder statesmen of Biggar – aka the Over-35s – took on touring French side Amicale des Anciens Joueurs de Rugby de Choisy le Roi Créteil of Paris.

Another 30+ touring party assembled but only 13 managed it onto the pitch!

Each playing member presented their opposite number with a bottle of wine and the match ensued. Despite the assistance of Biggar men David Adams and then Grant Owens and Alistair Browning, the power and pace of the Biggar squad was too great for the French and Biggar ran out convincing winners.

Out-going DO Calum Taylor ended his official duties with the club by officiating BOTH matches!
