Peebles 31

Haddington 15

PEEBLES progressed in the BT National League Cup after a hard-fought victory over Haddington at The Gytes.

An early try from Scott Stoddart was the perfect start for the hosts.

But the East Lothian side responded with a Sam Morely penalty then a James Ferguson try after quarter of an hour to edge in front.

But yellow cards to two visiting players - Morley and Garry Cockburn, turned the tide back in Peebles' favour.

And the Pees took full advantage.

Ross Brown raced over to restore the lead for the Gytes men.

Greg Raeburn added the conversion.

And teenager Roddy Guiney finished off a well-worked move to crash over for another score before the break.

Peebles turned around with a 17-8 advantage.

A try just after the interval from Ryan Stewart made sure it was Peebles who would progress to the next round.

Raeburn took the advantage to 24-8.

Haddington did respond with another try from Ferguson.

But a late fifth try for Peebles by Callum Anderson made sure there was no opportunity of a fightback.

Murray Johnstone popped over the conversion to make the final score 31-15.
