PEEBLES RFC's outgoing president Jim Currie looked back on his two years in the hot seat and reflected: "It had some good times and some difficult ones."

Currie then handed down the gauntlet to his players at this week's AGM - let's go for promotion and do better on the sevens circuit.

But off the field, he had a warning too - it was costing £150,000 to run the club, and in a time of economic squeeze, that was going to get worse.

The President issued a huge challenge for the season under new coaches Gary Parker and Gerry McGuinness.

He said: "I would like the first team to be challenging in the top four of the league, a cup run would be nice, and I think with a bit of organisation we could do more on the Borders 7s' circuit.

"The 2nds are in the new league and I would like to actually see the 2nds win a game which they are not meant to. The Colts should be challenging in the top three in their league and the under-16s I believe will be in a league this year. This should all be good for the future of the club.

"I would like the club still to have at least one home game on every weekend and one social function on every weekend through the whole season.

"The Development Officer has funding for the next two years and we are hoping to keep this a position for the foreseeable future.

He added: "We are still hoping to do our bit for the charities such as MAD, breast cancer an Hearts and Heroes as we are not just a club who take from the community, but we also give back."

Currie knows that big challenges lie ahead. But as Director of Rugby, Bob Hogarth, the vice-president of the Border League, chases new players, the President knows that the competition will not get any easier.

At Wednesday's AGM Lindsay Laird was elected as President, Vice President Gordon Brown, Gerard Bony & Donald Swanson as treasurers, Greg Haywood as secretary, Robert Hogarth as Director of Rugby and George Tait as Director of Playing Support.

Allan Beveridge was added to the list of Honorary Vice Presidents

George Tait, David Swan, Robert Hogarth and Gerard Bony fulfil the criteria laid sown in the Constitution and join Donald Swanson as Life Members.
