C'est La Vie Peebles Colts
Peebles Colts are off to France for their first ever game against US Annecy this weekend.
A total of 25 players and six officials have made the trip across the Channel.
The tour is intended to encourage team building and fellowship within the squad and with the US Annecy club.
And officials are hoping that this will be the beginning of very positive long term relations between the two clubs.
Tom Menzies is the Colts' Rugby Co-ordinator this year. He told the Peeblesshire News: "Although the pre-season training has gone very well, the trip will sharpen the focus and put an edge on the team."
Several training sessions have been lined up when the Colts are in France and it all culminates in a game tomorrow (Saturday) against a team which is one of the best in the rugby-mad area.
There has also been some time to relax with various activities organised to keep the team fresh and ready to start their Borders Semi-Junior campaign when they return.
Neil Hughes and Paul Dennis have led the Management Group but a lot of the onus was put on the players to take responsibility for fundraising and organising the tour.
Neil said: "I am delighted by the way Ross Brown and Gregor Cursiter stepped up to the plate and helped lead the players through the process."
Paul was also particularly pleased that the funds were raised by hard work & endeavour and that no handouts or donations were sought. This ranged from Waxing & Shaving, various Bag Packing days, Car Washing, a Coffee Morning and acting as Waiters at various events.
The Colts Management Team are also grateful to main sponsor BARC Travel, Mrs Crory at the High School, Pauline Young at Tesco, Morag Stark at McDonald Cardona Hotel, Peebles ex-Cornets, Peebles Fire Service and John & Pam Smellie who allowed Tom Menzies to come out of retirement and run a bar at John's 40th Birthday Party.
Neil Hughes also expressed his gratitude to Peebles Rugby Club, particularly David Wilson, and to some of the parents, particularly Jim Cockburn and Annie & David May, for helping them achieve their targets. Ian McLauchlan, President of Scottish Rugby, was also very helpful and it's refreshing that someone at that level can get involved with a team like Peebles Colts.
No tour would be complete without a tour shirt and Trailtech, a local business and the leading European supplier of offroad and specialist motorcycle and ATV equipment, have provided them.
