Biggar players of all ages turned out for the club's Open Day
Biggar 12, Lasswade 32
Biggar's third warm up match prior to Premier league duty ended as the first two in defeat, Premier 3 side Lasswade managing to outscore their hosts by 5 tries to 2 in the process.
Having played so well against Melrose a fortnight ago and then again against GHA last week this was undoubtedly the most disappointing of the performances and while the result doesn't really matter coach Gary Parker who had to leave half way through the game because of his commentating duties with the BBC will be frustrated at the way his side played.
Wedding invitations and unavailability played some part in the day with no fewer than six players unavailable for one reason or another, but on a day when some of the more established players needed to step forward, there appeared to be a lack of urgency - something that next week's visitors will be keen to exploit.
Hit by a try after just two minutes Biggar went further behind after 15 as Lasswade made the best of some poor handling by the Biggar side who looked to be forcing the pass.
Some normality was restored after this restart as Biggar with ball in hand were for the first time able to take play to Lasswade a good break by stand off Cammy Thomson finding Douglas Notman in support.
With Craig Parker kicking the conversion Biggar were back in the game at 12-7 but this lasted just minutes as a big line drive from the Lasswade pack proved unstoppable and they regained their advantage at 17-7.
Following a series of infringements Lasswade were then reduced to 14 men and as might have been expected Biggar were able to dictate things a little more although they had to wait until the first few minutes of the second half before recording their second score.
When it came it was replacement flanker Andrew Peacock who crossed, this after a lineout take and drive similar to that which had proved so successful for Lasswade.
Once again however, having clawed their way back, Biggar conceded a try almost immediately from the kick off as Lasswade ran with ball in hand to unlock the Biggar defence with some excellent support play.
Biggar rang the changes with several youngsters given a run out and there was a further change as Thomson was injured and then again as replacement hooker Michael Rutherford was forced off with a recurrence of a groin injury.
Another passage of support play as Biggar tired saw Lasswade run in their fifth score to complete their 32 point tally.
