Missing middle from poor Pees
Jed Forest 26 v Peebles 5
PEEBLES were looking to continue their winning ways following last weekend's narrow victory over Kelso.
But hopes of moving up the table were quickly dashed by a clinical, and speedy, Jed team.
The home side were pinned down early on in their 22 with Peebles peppering the line with some good recycled possession.
But 10 minutes of pressure came to nothing and the Riverside Park side began to mount their own attacks.
Jed finally got the ball going forward and it wasn't long before the Pees defence was opened up by the speedy number 8 who linked up nicely with his fullback to open up the scoring.
The seven point deficit soon became 14 with another quick home try.
Peebles appeared to lose all urgency and hunger, the breakdowns became one sided and the mistakes started creeping in as ball failed to be held.
Jed were unable to turn the mistakes into points and a missed penalty from Peebles left the half time score at 14-0.
Gerry McGuinness made a few changes, but unfortunately the flow of the game didn't change as Jed continued to dominate open play.
And they were rewarded with two more quick tries to claim the bonus point.
With 15 minutes to go it was game over, but Kenny Clyde swapped his rugby boots for dancing shoes as he tap danced around the Jed defence and barged over for a five pointer.
Neil Warnock failed to convert but the wind was behind Peebles and the try gave them some hope in salvaging a bit of pride from the game.
Peebles finished the game the same way they started, a million miles an hour, throwing their bodies on the line and hungry for the ball.
And it makes the Gytes faithful wonder where the effort and intensity was for the rest of the game.
Once again they failed to turn pressure into points before the final whistle.
