Kerr, who won 50 caps for his country, was forced to retire from playing in 2010 after suffering a neck injury.

The 37-year-old had played for Leeds Carnegie, Edinburgh, the Border Reivers and Sale Sharks during a distinguished career.

Along with Moore, who has been one of Peebles’ best players over the past decade, they will take up their positions at the start of July.

Graeme Paterson, who remains as director of rugby at the National Division One club, is delighted with the appointments.

He told us: “We have been working hard behind the scenes and we are delighted to have Gavin and Drew as our coaches.

“There will be no head coach as such this season - it will be Gavin and Drew along with myself who will be responsible for the tea,” Local physiotherapist Phil Mack will continue in his position as the strength and conditioning coach while Craig Hunter has taken over as team manager from Graham Bell.

Two new players have already been signed - a centre from New Zealand and a lock from South Africa - with both being unveiled during the summer.

Paterson added: “The nucleus of last season’s team was very young. They are still together and they will grow and grow, and get better together.

“It will be a strong league this season but there to say that we won’t be up challenging for promotion.”
