The Gytes side will be expecting to pick up five points when they travel to Glasgow tomorrow to take on bottom of the table Hillhead-Jordanhill.

Once again Peebles faltered against one of the leading teams in the BT National League Division One, failing to conjure up the little extra that was necessary to overcome second-top GHA.

The red and whites approached the game at the Gytes full of confidence after their hammering of Aberdeen seven days earlier.

They did manage to get their noses in front but victory was snatched from their grasp as GHA dominated the second half and scored with their one decent chance, Peebles senior director of rugby Graeme Paterson was frustrated at the outcome but not too disheartened by the performance in a game that was entertaining despite the difficult, windy conditions.

“Both sides played well and a neutral would have considered it a good standard,” he said. “The elements did have a part in the way the game was played.

“It’s disappointing not to win but we did take one point out of it. Overall the effort was good and it was just a couple of little things that let us down.

“Against the top sides we have played well without having much luck. It was a close game again and the difference might be that they have got the winning habit and know how to grind out a win.

“They did what we did to them in the first half and ran at us and kept possession. The wind had dropped by the second half but I don’t think that was a significant factor.

“When we looked at our watches and saw that there was just two minutes to go and we were stuck in our own 22, it was just so frustrating,” Tomorrow’s rivals Hillhead-Jordanhill have lost all 15 of their games this season and it should be a pushover for the visitors at Hughenden (kick off 2pm).

“We are going there on the back of two decent performance, We will be expecting to win and the aim has to be to get five points on the board,” said Paterson.

“But it’s important that the players aren’t complacent. They will still have work to do, they can’t expect the win to be handed to them on a plate. We must make sure they don’t get a sniff of anything.

“They made Biggar work for their win last week and they will be looking to get something out of their season.

“They will be relegated now but I am sure they will be hoping to win somewhere, we just have to make sure it isn’t us.”
