PEEBLES are hopeful of making a bold show in their own Sevens tournament after being drawn against Howe of Fife in the first round of the competition.

But bosses at the Gytes have dismissed the notion that the Cupar side will be a pushover.

Howe of Fife have gained promotion from BT National Division Two and will be testing the water before they meet Peebles in the league next season.

Peebles convener Lindsay Laird said: “We are always very competitive in our Sevens and last year we managed to get to the quarter finals.

“This year we have a strong, young side and I’d like to think we could beat them on our home ground.

“But they did well in this tournament last year and I am sure they will be taking it seriously again. They will be wanting to show what they can do before they compete against us and some of the other Borders side in the league next season.
