The P6 Peebles Piranhas travelled to Northern Ireland to take part in the Camp Fest Rugby Festival, hosted by Lurgan Tigers RFC.

The two day festival consisted of fun activities and games, coaching clinics by Ulster Rugby and matches against the hosts, as well as visiting teams from across Ulster, all of whom showed that the future of Irish rugby is looking strong.

The Peebles boys took some time to adapt to the variations in the age group laws of Irish mini rugby, as well as some torrential rain, but they put in some strong performances and improved as the tournament went on and as they got used to the new style of play.

By the second day they were far more competitive and showed that a good nights’ sleep and some welcome sunshine allowed them to settle into their trademark style of rugby, with some hard running and tackling.

All of the boys showed great team spirit and enjoyed their introduction to the art of coarse rugby, where they learnt some new songs and club room games from their new friends from Ireland!

The organisers at Lurgan RFC were outstanding hosts and showed us great hospitality throughout the weekend, making sure that we were all fed and watered at every opportunity.

The boys were a credit to their club and showed how lifelong friendships can be made through rugby, and are looking forward to welcoming the Lurgan Tigers back to Peebles in the near future.
