PEEBLES Netball annual awards night was held last week to celebrate another successful year and to recognise effort and contribution to the club. Star of the show was international player Caillie Douce (pictured with coach Lind Nicholson) who was given a special award to mark her long-standing contribution to the club since its inception in 2006. In her address, Linda Nicholson who has coached Caillie for the past seven years, spoke of the player's promising start as an 11 year old at Priorsford Primary school.

Caillie was subsequently selected to play for Peebles Netball and has performed at top levels for the club at U13, U15 and U17 age groups, playing for Scotland in the U17 European championships in 2011. Now part of the Scotland U21 long squad, Caillie has continued to captain the Peebles Netball senior team and will play a key part in helping to get a Peebles Netball adult section off the ground next season. In addition to her contribution as a player, Caillie has coached the Priorsford Primary P7 netball squad this year and is working towards qualification as an umpire. Awards for most improved players went to Mhairi Davidson (U13), Anna Miller (U15), Susanne Krabbendam (U15) and Jenny Hudson (U17). Sponsors John Mackenzie and David Burgher presented the Aitken Turnbull U13 and U15 league winners' trophies. Kirsty Williams representing Peebles High School presented the S3 Scottish Schools' winning cup. Jamie Hudson, chair of Peebles Netball and representative of sponsor Hirsel Estates Development presented the ScottishU17 District Winners' trophy.
