BORDERS singing group, Fisher Lassies, are making their Fringe debut.

They will perform at the Acoustic Music Centre@St Bride’s, Edinburgh, on Wednesday, August 13, from 7pm to 8pm.

The Fisher Lassies are an a cappella group with a well-established reputation in their home territory of the Borders.

They originally formed in 2007 to play the role of real fisher lassies in “Lament for the Little Boats”, a powerful play about the Eyemouth Fishing Disaster of 1881 written by local playwright Howard Purdie. This involvement culminated in a successful four-night run in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and, finally, a performance in Peebles Arts Festival in 2008.

Since then they have continued to sing together because they enjoy it and, while the name has stuck, their repertoire has widened to include whatever songs inspire them. Drawn chiefly from traditional sources, their songs range from the haunting & atmospheric to the joyful and uplifting.

They have performed annually at the Innerleithen Music Festival and at other events throughout the Borders and beyond, all of which have been very well supported.

Tickets for the Fisher Lassies performance at the Fringe are priced £8 or £6 concession and available from the Fringe Box Office and Queen’s Hall Box Office or at the door.
