THE six young musicians of Feis Rois were given a rousing reception as they entertained a packed café at the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles.
The free Eastgate concert is becoming a fixture on the annual tour by the organisation which gives young musicians, aged 16 – 25, opportunities to broaden their experience as a touring musician.
Australian fiddle player Jack Wilson found himself playing the Captain Pugwash theme after Calan Mawer, 8, told him that “sometimes violin music sounds like pirate music and I really like it.” Appropriately this year the Feis Rois tour featured musicans from across the commonwealth. The group were Lucie Hendry from Auchenblae on clarsach, Micheal Steele from South Uist on pipes and whistles, Charlie Grey from Kiltarlity on fiddle and mandolin and Josie Duncan from Lewis on vocals and clarsach. Joining them in our first ever commonwealth line up was Maxim Cormier on guitar from Cape Breton and Jack Wilson from Australia on fiddle.
Anyone who missed the café concert can find out where the band are playing by checking www.feisrois.org or telephoning Feis Rois on 01349 862600.
