BIGGAR Music has a great series of concerts with wide ranging musicians in its forthcoming season.

The opening concert of the 2014 -15 season will be presented by the Cavaleri String Quartet in the Municipal Hall, Biggar, on Saturday, September 27, at 8pm.

The Cavaleri’s programme for Biggar will include string quartets by Mozart, K.465 in C major, Dissonance; Shostakovich, No. 8 in C minor; and Brahms, Op.51, No.2 in A minor.

Founded in 2008, the Cavaleri Quartet has gained a reputation as one of the leading European string quartets, winning second prize at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in 2014, and First Prize at the 2012 Hamburg International Chamber Music Competition.

The Quartet, whose members hail from England, Scotland, Ireland and Australia, first came to prominence in the UK after winning the Royal Over-Seas League Ensemble Competition in 2011. They have just completed three years as the Quartet in Residence at Oxford University.

Highlights of recent seasons include appearances at the major concert halls in London, Vienna, Madrid, Venice and Moscow, at the Schubertiade in Austria, as well as a major tour of New Zealand and Australia, and live broadcasts on BBC Radio Three.

This is the first concert in an exciting winter season of seven concerts, and a subscription for the whole series is available for just £50.

An invitation is extended to everyone - tickets for each individual concert cost £11, and will be available at the door; Students and accompanied children are free.
