ROCK-FOLK duo The Jellyman’s Daughter including a Peebles cellist headline at the Eastgate on October 15.

The Edinburgh based band features Emily Kelly on guitar and Graham Coe on cello, with vocal harmonies that share a unique affinity and create equal amounts of intimacy and excitement in their songs.

Graham’s percussive and improvisational style of cello playing sets The Jellyman’s Daughter apart and introduces another dimension to the acoustic duo format.

Just over two years ago Emily and Graham were staying up till the wee hours recording songs in Graham’s bedroom.

This year has seen the duo achieving track of the month in The Scotsman and a four-star review in The List, appearing on BBC Radio Scotland’s Culture Show, as well as receiving plays on The Roddy Hart show.

Notable gigs this year include supporting eminent Brooklyn band Lucius, showcasing for the Wide Days music convention and enjoying sets at Kelburn Garden Party and Southern Fried Festival.

Last month The Jellyman’s Daughter released their debut album, which sees the duo collaborate with some very talented friends to create more of a full-band sound for some songs on the album.

While the sum of its parts echoes a traditional bluegrass set up – double bass, banjo, mandolin and fiddle – the result on the album is more diverse, each song incorporating a different flavour ranging from gypsy jazz to almost classical string playing, as well as some unmistakable bluegrass banjo picking.

While these guest musicians help expand the album’s sonic palette on some songs, they do not overshadow the unique sound and approach of The Jellyman’s Daughter.
