PEEBLES Orchestra’s autumn concert, on Saturday, November 29 at the Eastgate, is certain to be a golden evening of orchestral music.

Generous sponsorship by the Benson Family has made it possible to invite a talented guest conductor in Richard Nelson and he has devised a wonderful programme featuring two renowned, and indeed, sensational soloists – Alexander Janiczek, violin, and Jane Atkins, viola, who will perform Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante.

Few violinists working today can equal the intellectual and musical breadth of artist Alexander Janiczek. Previously concertmaster of the SCO, Janiczek appeared as a soloist with principal conductor Robin Ticciati, and continues to direct them on a regular basis, both in Scotland and abroad. Janiczek is a Professor of Violin at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Jane Atkins is principal viola in the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Since joining in 2008 Jane has performed Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with Alexander Janecek numerous times throughout Scotland. She has appeared as a soloist throughout the UK and Europe, performing and working as guest principal with all the major orchestras and ensembles. The concert opens with Mozart’s Overture to the Marriage of Figaro and the Orchestra, led by Claire Taylor, will also play Bizet’s very popular Symphony in C – full of expressive melody and rhythm, sure to send you home humming and tapping your toes!

To get these two brilliant players as soloists here in Peebles in one concert, and playing the Mozart, is just too good to miss! Which is why tickets are selling fast – but there are still some left at £10 (schoolchildren £1) at the Eastgate Box Office. This is indeed a golden opportunity!
