DESPAIRING of Dave? Exasperated by Ed? Fed up of Farage? Not sure about Nick or Nicola?

Not to worry, those doyens of the cabaret circuit, Messrs Morss and Wilcock, will be providing an antidote to the General Election with an evening full of biting political satire and badinage together with some mellifluous interludes from the wonderful Annie Patch in The Two Moronnies Election Special at the Carlops Village Hall on Saturday, May 2.

With a host of political and business luminaries making “guest” appearances, first clichés will be uttered at 7.30pm in an evening that promises to be rich in humour, looking closely at those manifesto promises that are sure to be ditched once the votes have been cast and at some of the scandals that have dominated the news in the past few months.

That rapier wit of Messrs Morss and Wilcock has been applied to a range of topics, from the propensity of politicians to speak in sound bites, to the perils of tax avoidance through to the ability of a leading bank to allegedly assist its wealthy clients by concealing money in offshore accounts.

In the interests of fairness and impartiality no party’s reputation has been spared and we’re even promised a reprise of that infamous seven-sided TV debate that took place recently. Leading establishment figures will be also discussing the state of our armed forces and the potential leadership challenges that will be faced by those who fail to cross the threshold at Number Ten.

Speaking during a break in rehearsals this week, Les Morss said: “Despite each party leader sticking firmly to their well-honed and essentially identical scripts, there have been plenty of gaffes and ridiculous promises that we can satirise to well-known tunes.” The duo will be scouring the media for ideas and writing lyrics right up to the day of the concert and are confident that there’ll be plenty more material emerging in the next week. Indeed, Tim Wilcock, rehearsing his role as a well-known leading blond-haired prospective Conservative MP, said: “In any election campaign there are no such things as disasters, only opportunities. And in our case, opportunities for more disasters.” Tickets, priced £5 are available from 07773 024024.
