THE young brass players from Peebles Development Silver Band were given a master class by Jonathan Bates, the 1st Tenor Horn Player with the world famous Black Dyke Band and BBC Young Musician of the Year finalist 2012.
This all day workshop was in preparation for the band's participation at the Scottish Youth Championships in Perth two weekends ago.
The boost in confidence from such a respected and talented individual player cannot be underestimated. Jonathan is also a composer of growing renown and has already worked with some of the leading lights in UK brass circles.
He is developing his skills as a conductor and a tutor and expressed his delight with the reaction of the youngsters to his guidance and advice.
The band followed the workshop with a recital of their championship programme to a full house.
