MUSIC in Peebles provides an exciting start to the New Year with something both different and something reassuringly familiar played by Naomi and Pablo Pavri, cello and piano duo, who are two of Scotland’s finest musicians.

Naomi is widely known as a member of the Scottish Ensemble, whilst Pavri is a renowned teacher and professor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Both have toured extensively, featured in many recordings and play regularly on BBC Radio 3.

There is chamber music from Germany and Russia in the form of Brahms sonata No 1 Op.38 and Rachmaninov Sonata in G min. Op. 19 but for those looking for something new to start 2015, John Mayer’s music brings together Indian and Western classical traditions with Prabhanda, inspired by Indian ragas, that provides a dash of something different and exotic. Nearer to home Bridging the Day by Sally Beamish evokes the ever changing effects of natural light from sunrise to sunset around her Scottish home, and starts this musical journey.

All you require for this wonderful musical experience on Tuesday, January 13, at 7.30pm, is a ticket £14 (£7 if accompanied by a child, free for members of Music in Peebles and school students) from the Eastgate theatre (tel 01721 725777). Look forward to seeing you at the Eastgate, where a warm welcome awaits and glorious music.
