THOUSANDS of Borderers are expected to turn out to pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This Sunday, 15 towns in the region will host parades in tribute to those killed during conflict as part of the Remembrance Day commemorations.

Events will be held across Tweeddale including:

Peebles

Begins at: 10.15am at the Peebles Parish Church

Route: Peebles Parish Church - High Street - War Memorial - High Street - Band Hall (Silver Band Only)

A Religious Service of Remembrance will be held in the Old Parish Church, Peebles at 9.30am .Thereafter there will be a Remembrance procession from the church to the County War Memorial, Chambers Institution where a Civic Act of Remembrance will take place at 10.45am.

The Service of Remembrance is intended to reflect the Church’s understanding of remembrance and thanksgiving for the sacrifices of those in war, and in particular to hear the voices of those who served and those for whom they served.

The Act of Remembrance will follow a traditional, formal pattern of Laying of Wreaths, Last Post, and Two Minutes Silence.

The whole community, and visitors, are warmly invited to both occasions.

Walkerburn & District

Begins at: 10.35am at the Walkerburn Public Hall

Route: Walkerburn Public Hall - A72 (West) - War Memorial opposite Walkerburn Post Office

Innerleithen

ITW Parish Church:

9.30am Morning Worship - Traquair Kirk

10.50am Traquair War Memorial

11.30am Morning Worship Innerleithen Church followed by act of remembrance at Innerleithen War Memorial.

West Linton

St Andrew’s Parish Church

Rev. Dr. Linda Dunbar will conduct a service starting at 10.45am

Biggar

Begins at South Back Road at 10.45

Outward route: Assemble at South Back Road from John Street (P.O. Sheds) - South Back Road - John Street - High Street to War Memorial for Wreath Laying Ceremony; back up High Street - Kirkstyle to Biggar Kirk where parade disperses for service.

Inward route at 12.15: Assemble in Kirkstyle after service - proceed along High Street to Corn Exchange where parade disperses.

To accommodate the parades, there will be road closures this Sunday:

Peebles – 10.30-11am, High Street, Peebles

Walkerburn – 10.15-11.15am, A72 Galashiels Road, Walkerburn – from Hall Street to Jubilee Road

Galashiels – This Sunday 12noon-1.30pm: Park Street, Channel Street, Market Street, Cornmill Square, Bank Street, High Street.
Parking will be prohibited on Sunday, November 13 between 12noon and 1.30pm on Market Street opposite the bus stop at No 11.

Selkirk – 10am-12.30pm: The Valley, West Port – from The Valley to Market Place, Market Place – from West Port to High Street, High Street, Ettrick Terrace – from Market Place to The Valley.

Earlston – 10.15-11.15am: Church Street, East Green, High Street, The Square.

Melrose – 10.15-11.30am: Abbey Street, Market Square, High Street, St Mary’s Road.

St Boswells – 10.50-11.15am: A68 – at St Boswells war memorial.

Jedburgh – 10.30am-12.30pm: High Street, Market Place, Abbey Place, Abbey Bridge End, A68 from Abbey Bridge End to Oxnam Road, and Oxnam Road.

Hawick – 10.15-11.45am: Victoria Road, Albert Road, Sandbed, High Street, O’Connell Street.
