CONCERNS have been raised over speeding in West Linton after it emerged that two cats had been killed.

Details of the fatalities on Bogsbank Road were raised by two residents at the village’s December meeting of the Community Council.

The residents claimed young children could also be at risk, due to the vehicles speeding through the area.

The members of the public also asked if traffic-calming measures, such as flashing lights could be installed, and if the 20mph speed limit could be extended throughout the village.

Councillor Eric Small (Cons) said: “Myself and fellow councillors are working closely with colleagues from the roads department at Scottish Borders Council to see the best way to address this problem.

“The council is reviewing ways to control speeding across all 10 community council areas.”

The issue has been raised with the local authority several times over the years.

To try to tackle the speeding problem in the village, the community council distributed 30mph wheelie bin stickers to residents living along the A702 in July last year.

The idea came from community council secretary Graham Tulloch after a conversation he had with a police officer about the success of a similar project in Stow.

Any resident who spots speeding offences in West Linton is urged to report them to the Police by calling 101, or online to Scottish Borders Council at www.scotborders.gov.uk/report
