PEEBLES Netball’s Emma Latto had an extra-special 15th birthday this week with the news that she has been included in the 12-strong Scotland U17 Netball squad for the Netball Europe Championships in March.

The defender for Peebles Netball and Borders District Netball squads has had a rapid rise to international selection, having been talent identified and entered by her club and district coach, Linda Nicholson, directly into the Scotland trials last summer, rather than progressing through the conventional route of East of Scotland Development squad.

The former Beltane Queen made the most of her opportunity, and following selection to the Scotland long squad last summer, worked hard to maintain her place, through gruelling fitness and technical sessions, to survive the final cut last weekend.

One of the youngest in the squad, Emma is one of only four netballers selected from the East of Scotland who will be heading to County Meah, Ireland, for the Netball Europe Championships which run from March 2 to 4.

Emma is the latest in the line of Peebles Netball players selected for Scotland internationals over recent years, previous and current internationals include Jo Pettitt, Lauren Tait, Jenny Hudson, and Caillie Douce.
